Marks & Spencer Expands RFID Trial
After assessing the results of a trial using RFID tags to track items of clothing at its High Wycombe store near London, U.K. food and clothing retailer Marks & Spencer says it plans to extend its trial of item-level tagging. The next phase, which could start as soon as the spring, is expected to extend to a number of M&S stores.

U.K. Slow to Implement RFID
A survey by supply chain standards association e.centre shows that despite a belief in RFID’s benefits, few U.K. companies plan to implement the technology this year. Only 15 percent of the 200 U.K. companies have concrete plans to introduce RFID into their organizations. Full Story >

Intermec Inks EPCglobal's IP Accord
Intermec Technologies, one of the largest holders of RFID patents, has joined EPCglobal—the nonprofit organization charged with commercializing EPC technology—and signed a final version of EPCglobal’s intellectual property agreement, signaling a breakthrough on the issue. Full Story >

Firewall Protection for Paper Documents
CrossID, an Israeli startup, has developed an innovative, chipless RFID system that can protect sensitive documents, such as intelligence agency reports, financial securities and banknotes. The technology could also be used to create a "hands-free" bar code. Full Story >

Wi-Fi Tag Maker Ramps Up
Bluesoft, a maker of wireless security and location systems, has secured $5.7 million in Series B funding. The company says it will use the money to drive sales of its Wi-Fi-based AeroScout location system as a complement to RFID technology. Full Story >
